DARS Night Before Christmas
Here is a Christmas greeting that was sent to me and I thought I would share it with all of you.
Hope everyone has a Happy and safe Holiday season and a Very good New Year.

Loretta

DARS NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
by James Gartrell (butchering the original by Clement Clarke Moore)

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all across the range
Not a rocket was launching, it seemed sort of strange;

The rockets were stored on their displays with care,
In hopes that Old Vern soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of rocket flights danced in their heads;

And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Knocked over the Mega Baron and stepped on my Scortch,
Moved aside my rockets and stepped out on the porch.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the luster of a Sparky motor, oh what a glow,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, powered by a Sky Ripper,

With a little old driver, from Estes we learned,
I knew in a moment it must be Old Vern.

More rapid than a Roadrunner G-80 his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Royce! now, Marissa! now, Don and Terri!
On, Sam! on James! on, Tim and Cheri!

To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

As fast as a minimum diameter on a K-motor will fly,
From the base of the launch pad, it zooms to the sky,

So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of rockets and motors, and Old Vern too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The spewing and spurting of nitrous oxide, poof.

As I stepped back in the house, and was turning around,
Down the chimney Old Vern came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;

A bundle of High Power and Sport Rocketry was flung over his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;

He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
In his hands, a Hawks Hobby Snooper for myself;

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,

And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his sleigh, and switched on the relayer,
And counted down to start and took off like an O-motor.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he blasted out of sight,
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good-flight."

My Web site
In-case some of you haven't noticed the Hawks Hobby web site is going through some changes again. I have been informed by some that it seemed a little cluttered and for those that have dial up it is a little on the slow side. Soooo I have been working on giving everyone a choice on which way they want to view it ... High speed or dial up (non cluttered). IT is up and running, just not finished yet , a lot of distractions lately but it should be completed soon.

Hawks Hobby web site
I'm in the process of doing a complete redo on the web site. I hope to have the new one up
later this week.

Sorry if this messes up any bookmarks.

The overall  information and content will remain for the most part the same as it is now.
With the changes that I'm making I hope that the site will look nicer and the load times
will be faster. It will still be loaded with photos as it is now.

Challenger 498 - Club launch
We were planning on going to the Challenger club launch yesterday, however as with any well laid plan the rains
came and are still coming , so we had to cancel. From what I understand Dave M. was the only one to brave the weather and go.

We hope the weather is nice for the next launch so that we can go then.

NASA / Houston Rocket Club
We went out to JSC for a little fun today ...Flew a couple rockets.  Got to meet a few really nice people.

The weather was great ...  sunny, but not to hot (however I did get a little sunburned) and it was a little windy not to bad though.

We flew the Super Goblin  a had a good flight on a E9-6... Mark put a 16' inch chute on it instead of the normal 24" due to the wind and it landed not to far from the launch pad.

Josh flew his Semroc SLS Javelin and had a pretty good flight , he has to patch up the nose cone before his next flight it ended up with a "Estes Dent" in it.  He did a good job on his build.

We're planning .... underline planning... to go out to Katy next weekend to join the Challenger 498 club for their launch. More Family FUN.!!!!

Crazy Week
Last week was totally crazy. We spent the week restocking and finishing up the new kits. Wanted to have it all done by the weekend for the NTHP Launch in Windom.  We had been asked to Sponser the DARS Fall Classic Contest and of course we were gonna enter. We also planned to hold our own You Name It ... You Win it Contest.  Our plan was to go up sometime Saturday ( both contest were to run on Sunday).
After a really busy and crasy week .... Mark goes to work Friday night and brakes his finger, so he spends the night in the ER. We ended up not heading up till very very early Sunday morning.  Needless to say it is a LONG (about 5 hours or so) drive from Houston to about an hour above Dallas. Anyway we get up there and find the launch site only no one is there, thought we were lost because we couldn't find anyone.  We finally make a call and find out that it had been cancelled around 6am due to rain.  So we did what anyone would do ........ turned around and came home.  Needless to say about 12 hours straight on the road is not  the best way to spend a Sunday.

Hope we have better luck the next time.

New kit built by Josh (Cat Man)
I just built the Semroc SLS Javelin.  It was fun and somewhat easy to build expecially with the fin slots already cut out for me.
I was planning on entering it in the DARS classic contest last weekend but it was cancelled because of rain.
Maybe next time.

My next rocket is the Hawks Hobby Super Javelin.
